Basic Panchang Sunrise API

The Basic Panchang Sunrise API provides Panchang related calculations and insights based on Vedic Astrology principles. This endpoint is designed for astrology applications, report generation systems, horoscope platforms, and developer integrations requiring structured JSON responses and reliable REST API access.

The Basic Panchang Sunrise API computes the five core Panchang (Hindu almanac) elements anchored to the sunrise of a given date and geographic location, rather than a specific clock time. In Vedic tradition, many astrological and religious determinations are made relative to the sunrise of the day, making this a critical variant for accurate muhurta calculations, daily almanac generation, and ritual planning.

What This API Does

This API calculates the fundamental Panchang elements — Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (luni-solar combination), and Karana (half lunar day) — as they stand at the moment of sunrise for the specified date and location. By fixing the calculation point to sunrise, this endpoint follows the classical Vedic convention where the Panchang of a day is defined by the planetary positions at the time the Sun rises at that location. This makes it particularly suited for traditional almanac generation and religious scheduling where sunrise-relative values are required.

What Data It Returns

  • Tithi — the lunar day number, name, deity, and completion percentage at sunrise

  • Vara — the Vedic weekday, its ruling planet, and general characteristics

  • Nakshatra — the lunar mansion (star) the Moon occupies at sunrise, including its name, lord, and pada (quarter)

  • Yoga — the luni-solar yoga active at sunrise, its name, ruling deity, and nature (auspicious or inauspicious)

  • Karana — the half-day unit in effect at sunrise, its name, type (fixed or movable), and ruling deity

  • Sunrise time — the precise sunrise time computed for the given location and date

  • Sunset, Moonrise, and Moonset times — computed for the given location and date

  • Ayanamsha value — the precession offset applied during calculation

Main Use Cases

  • Traditional Panchang and almanac generation — producing daily almanac entries that follow the classical Vedic convention of sunrise-anchored Panchang values

  • Religious and ritual scheduling — determining the Panchang of a day for planning pujas, vratas (fasts), festivals, and other religious observances

  • Muhurta determination — identifying auspicious timings for important life events where the day's Panchang is assessed from sunrise

  • Hindu calendar applications — powering digital Panchang calendars, temple apps, and religious event platforms

  • Astrology platforms — providing sunrise-based Panchang data for birth chart analysis and daily astrological guidance

  • Spiritual and devotional apps — helping users understand the sacred quality of each day from a traditional Vedic perspective

Key Functionality

  • Sunrise-anchored calculation — all five Panchang elements are evaluated at the moment of sunrise, following classical Vedic convention

  • Location-aware sunrise computation — sunrise time is derived from the provided latitude, longitude, and timezone for geographic accuracy

  • Five-element Panchang output — delivers all five classical Panchang components (Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana) in a single response

  • Ayanamsha support — applies the configured Ayanamsha system (e.g., Lahiri, Raman, KP) for sidereal calculations

  • Multilingual support — returns data in the language specified via the Accept-Language header

  • Luminaries' timing data — includes sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset times for the given location and date
